WHO WIPES AWAY YOUR TEARS?

av Azita Miakhel

When you see the empty chair beside you,

and you cry inwardly,

who wipes away your tears?

When you hear them gossip, scream, offend, and betray,

and it makes you weep,

who wipes away your tears?

When they’d rather sweat with eight people around the same table than choose the seat next to you,

and your soul just screams,

it hurts, naturally,

who, then, wipes away your tears?

When they shift their anger, unload their frustration on you,

when they gossip, slander, and subtly aggress,

who wipes away your tears?

When you lie in bed, turning the pillow to the dry side,

when you want to sleep,

but can’t for fear of tomorrow,

who wipes away your tears?

When you seek answers,

when you ask and ask,

when you ask again,

but there’s no answer,

and you start crying in despair,

who wipes away your tears?

When you struggle day in and day out,

waiting a bit more, enduring a bit more, working a bit more,

hoping that all of this will end,

but when no one hears your screams,

your cry for help,

when no one hears, no one helps,

there’s no way out,

then you cry again,

so tell me; who wipes away your tears?

You gave them everything you had and a bit more,

you withered away so they could bloom,

you crashed and gave them your parachute,

you became empty, filled with sorrow,

you cried and cried,

but no one wiped away your tears.
